Argument, Audience and Fallacies

For this weekend’s blog, I want you to do some serious thinking about your argument, your audience and how these both affect and are affected by the argument you intend to present. To do this, I want you to articulate to me the thoughts you have about these important concepts by answering the following questions in your blog entry. Make sure that these answers are not simply one word or one sentence answers. I am asking these questions so that you can take the time before beginning your writing. I want to see in your blog that these questions have been thoroughly thought out and answered.

******************This blog is due by Midnight Monday April 2nd*********************

  1. Who is your specific audience?
  2. Why did you choose them?
  3. How will your audience affect the argument you intend to present?
  4. Which fallacies will you need to focus on keeping from your argument? Why are these (individually) important to consider in  your argument?

Annotated Bibliography Format

The format you will use for your annotated bibliography is a highly structured four-sentence paragraph. Each sentence centers on a strong action verb. Avoid “to be” verbs and weak verbs such as “says,” “writes,” “does.” These verbs do not usually express either how the author approached the writing of the article or how the article “works” rhetorically. Follow this paragraph with a judgment paragraph of the essay. Here’s how you will complete these annotations. Read the rest of this entry »

Your Homework on Ashley X: What are the Parent’s Not Telling Us?

For your homework this weekend, you have two things to work on.

  1. First, read and comment on one of the blogs below. Make sure that your comment is not a criticism of what the author has to write, but that it is grounded in the research you have read thus far. Make sure that when you post to the blog you also post a comment to this post that includes your comment and the blog to which you posted it (simply copy and paste). This way if the author decides to delete your comment, you will still receive credit for the assignment. The deadline for this part of the assignment is Midnight Monday.
